WINTER WEDDING DRESSES: HOW TO GET MARRIED IN STYLE, IN THE COLD

There's something magical about a winter wedding. While people may worry it may be too cold, we think it's the perfect opportunity to wear a show-stopping dress—and not have to worry about sweating off your makeup!

Heavier fabrics, more fabric, embellishments, high necklines—these are all perfect for winter wedding dresses.

If you're looking for inspo for your winter wedding dress, you've come to the right place. Here are five wedding dresses that'll help you get married in style—in the cold.

1. Long-Sleeve Wedding Dress

This one's a no-brainer. Long-sleeve dresses are perfect for winter weddings. Why? Because they add more coverage. There will be no goosebumps in your wedding photos!

Mesh or lace are classic choices for wedding dress sleeves. It shows off your arms without leaving them completely bare.

You can also opt to wear three-quarter length sleeves instead of full-length sleeves. Or you could even wear long gloves. (Hello, Audrey Hepburn!) Those will also keep your hands nice and warm.

We recommend choosing a dress with a V or sweetheart neckline to balance out the long sleeves. If you'd like more coverage, you can often find dresses with illusion deep-V necklines. For the same reason, we also recommend throwing your hair up in a bun—no need to hide your face in a dress like this!

2. Wedding Dress with Detachable Layers

We love detachable layers for winter wedding dresses. These include capes, overskirts, and sleeves.

Keep them on during the ceremony—especially if you're outside. But when you start dancing the night away, you can take them off! Win-win.

Again, mesh and lace are popular materials for these detachable pieces because they don't mask your body too much. Take advantage and find some stunning floral embroidery.

Don't forget to store these in a safe place once you take them off. Plan ahead and check out this blog post on preserving your wedding dress.

3. Lace Wedding Dress

Dresses for winter weddings can feature lots of fabric—and heavier fabrics. While we may shy away from it during the summer months, they're just the thing for a winter wedding.

Some thicker fabrics that we recommend are lace and satin.

You may want to avoid thin fabrics are chiffon, tulle, and silk. Or, just ensure that there are lots of layers. Fuller skirts are a way to keep you warmer. (It's like a blanket attached to you all night!)

You can also add weight and layers to your dress through embellishments. While a heavy gown featuring jewels and beads may not be the first choice for a hot summer wedding, they're perfect for winter weddings.

4. Ball Gown Wedding Dress

As we mentioned earlier, full skirts are ideal for winter weddings. Instead of just one layer of fabric wrapping your hips and legs, you have many! More fabric means a warmer dress.

Winter dresses for weddings often feature full A-line skirts or ball gown skirts. While they may use tulle fabric, there are so many layers that you're bound to stay warm.

Plus, they're ultra chic for a winter wonderland wedding. Why not go full glam? Throw on some dazzling shoulder-grazing earrings, a statement necklace, or both!

If a ball gown seems too fancy to wear all night, opt for a dress that has a detachable overskirt and rock a jumpsuit underneath! That'll also keep you nice and warm (and will allow for plenty of movement on the dance floor).

5. High-Neckline Wedding Dress

If you're looking for a winter wedding dress that doesn't have oodles of fabric, then stay warm with a high neckline.

While this little added coverage may seem insignificant, it makes quite a difference in maintaining a warm temperature. Why? The neck and chest area is one of the most sensitive parts of the body to the cold. So covering this area will go a long way.

Because it's a high neckline, we recommend throwing your hair up to elongate the neck. Put on a headpiece or wear some earrings to add some sparkle to your winter wedding look.
